GILMER -- Defending state champion Waskom had no issues in its playoff opener Friday night.

Dylan Harkrider threw three touchdowns and the Wildcats cruised into the area round of the Class 3A Division II playoffs with a 50-7 rout of DeKalb at Jeff Traylor Stadium.

Waskom (11-0) will face Gunter at 7:30 p.m. at Sam Parker Field in Mount Pleasant.

Harkrider completed 4 of 6 passes for 144 yards and three scores, two to Mike Reason and the other to Kaleb Haynes. Reason finished the game with four catches for 51 yards.

The Wildcats were still dominant on the ground, with Chan Amie leading the pack with 10 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown. Lucas North ran for 92 yards and a touchdown on six attempts, and Haynes also added 72 yards on the ground.

Waskom is outscoring its opponents 556-109 through 11 games this season.
