Texas Bank Robber Gets 78 Months in Federal Prison

A Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for committing three-armed robberies of banks in the East District of Texas.

A Denton, Texas man who committed three-armed robberies of banks in the Denton County area has learned that he will spend the next 78 months in federal prison as announced by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs of the Eastern District of Texas.

Three Armed Robberies Across Denton County

41-year-old Jonathan Mark Fleming pleaded guilty to bank robberies that took place from November 2022 to February 2023. During that time Fleming committed three-armed robberies of banks in the Denton County area.

In each of the robberies, Fleming was dressed in all black, wore black ski goggles and a black mask. He also brandished a firearm in each of the robberies.

Vehicles Help Investigators Identify the Suspect

During the first two robberies Fleming arrived at the bank driving a red Dodge Challenger. In the final robbery, he was seen driving a Dodge Ram TRX truck. Investigators were able to track the Dodge Ram TRX truck to the original dealership and learned the defendant had purchased the truck with a large cash payment and a trade-in of a red Dodge Challenger.

Search Warrant Leads to Arrest

After identifying Fleming as a potential suspect, a search warrant was issued for his apartment on February 23, 2023. During the search Fleming was located and arrested. Officers also located items they observed on video surveillance from the robberies including a black/gray duffle bag, black clothing, a black face mask, a gun belt with a holster, and black ski goggles. A large sum of cash was still wrapped in bank currency bands, and law enforcement found multiple firearms.

There were two police radio scanners and multiple receipts detailing large deposits ranging from $19,000 to $40,000 into various bank accounts. In total, Fleming stole approximately $450,000 in cash from the three bank robberies.
