
Texas Senator Claims ‘Hemp is the New Meth’ During Meeting
Yesterday, a Texas Senate Committee hearing on the potential hemp ban in Texas took place and one Senator had a pretty bold claim from law enforcement.
Senate Committee on State Affairs Votes 10-0 for Hemp Ban
For just over six hours yesterday, the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs met to discuss Senate Bill 5. This bill if passed would ban the sale of consumable hemp products with THC, while keeping CBD and CBG products legal. Governor Greg Abbott recently vetoed a similar bill which is why it moved to this committee. They have decided that it moves along to the next step which is the Texas Senate for a vote.
Texas Senator Charles Perry Authored Senate Bill 5
Charles Perry represents District 28 in Texas and has been a Senate member since 2014. Perry along with Senator Brent Hagenbuch have been supporters of a THC ban in Texas. Senator Perry was a part of this hearing yesterday and had some pretty shocking claims from Texas law enforcement on hemp in Texas.
'Hemp is the New Meth'
Yesterday during the committee hearing. Senator Perry said local law enforcement claim that the hemp in Texas is the new meth. The Texas Police Chief's Association is supporting an all out ban on hemp in the state because they feel at this point regulation is impossible to enforce.

“It is the opinion of the Texas Police Chiefs Association that no amount of personnel or resources in a state this large with this many locations will ever be effective in regulating these dangerous products,” said Chief Steve Dye of Allen Police Department, who supports a total ban.
We will wait and see what the full Texas Senate thinks of this all out ban as Senate Bill 5 moves on.
