Fort Worth School Bragging About Lowest Measles Vaccination Rate in Texas
A measles outbreak is currently happening in parts of Texas and one school is happy to not be vaccinated.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, they're reporting an outbreak of measles in the South Plains region of Texas. At this time, 159 cases have been identified since late January. Twenty-two of the patients have been hospitalized. There has been one fatality in a school-aged child who lived in the outbreak area.
Currently the state of Texas requires children attending school to receive two doses of the vaccine to prevent measles. However, parents can file an exemption so their child does not have to get the vaccine. “Reasons of conscience,” including “a religious or personal belief that goes against getting immunized.” If you're someone that does not want to get your child vaccinated, you can go through the process of filing that exemption with the Texas Department of State Health Services here.
Above is a video from Pastor Landon Schott of Mercy Culture Church. This Church is a part of a private school in Fort Worth called Mercy Culture Preparatory. It's a K-12 private school who just 'won' having the least amount of vaccinated kids in the state of Texas when it comes to the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine. According to their numbers, the school only has 14.3% of the students vaccinated.
Shirts Were Made to Mark the Occasion of Being Number One in Texas
Pastor Schott showed off balloons and a custom t-shirt celebrating the school's number one status in Texas.“I just want to congratulate all of the family members of MC Prep that embrace freedom of health and they’re not allowing government or science projects to affect how you live and lead your life,” Schott said in the video. “Freedom is something we take seriously — religious freedom, freedom of our health.”
If you're curious what the vaccination rate is at your child's school. That information is available at the Texas Health and Human Services website. Just know it won't be lower than Mercy Culture Preparatory in Fort Worth.
