Sorry, Texas — I’m Not Eating Your Strangest ‘Delicacy’

There’s no way on Earth I would knowingly eat the food Far & Wide lists as the strangest food in Texas.

I’ll be the first to admit to being a picky eater. I’m not the pickiest eater I know, but I’ve always been a pretty picky eater.

That said, I don’t think you would have to be a picky eater to be grossed out by the thought of eating rattlesnake. I realize people eat it all the time at rattlesnake roundups (another big nope for me), but my best guess is that those people are in the minority.

“Tastes Like Chicken”? I’m Not Buying It

I love how people who eat weird stuff like rattlesnake always claim it “tastes like chicken.” I seriously have doubts about that. I’ll bet a dollar to a donut that it tastes like rattlesnake. Call me closed-minded all you want, but I’m not aiming to find out for myself. 

But the author of the story says it would be a waste of a good rattlesnake not to eat it:  

When you’re a cowboy or rancher living off the land, why would you pass up a perfectly good rattlesnake?  Eastern Diamondbacks are the heaviest and longest snakes in the U.S., and all of that meat found on a 3- to 8-foot snake shouldn’t be wasted.  Just don’t eat the head, which is filled with a deadly venom that could kill you.

I guess I’ll just have to be wasteful.
