New York Mets Welcome Texas Talent in Huge Signing Deal
(Tyler, TX) While the football season is coming to an end, baseball is gearing up for its season and a Texas native is signing on for big money to move to the Big Apple.
East Texas is a hotbed for football stars but our area has its fair share of Major League Baseball talent. One such name that's familiar with East Texans is pitcher A.J. Minter who was a key member of the Atlanta Braves’ bullpen during the team’s World Series run back in 2021.
Minter attended The Brook Hill School In Bullard, TX.
The Tyler native led his team to the state championship in both 2011 and 2012 and was awarded the East Texas MVP Award. Minter was also a standout on the Brook Hill football team, playing both running back and linebacker.
Following his high school career, Minter committed to Texas A&M and played for the team for three seasons before declaring for the draft. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2015 and has remained with the organization up until now.
On January 17th, Minter Signed A New Deal With The New York Mets.
Minter put up solid numbers with the Braves this past season, finishing the season with a stellar 2.61 ERA. His season was cut short, however, after hip surgery in June sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
But his injury was of no concern to the Mets who lured the star pitcher away from the Braves with a a two-year $22 million deal. The Mets are looking for Minter to be a veteran presence in the bullpen and help boost an already promising young bullpen coming off a a successful 2024 campaign where they finished with 89-73 with an appearance in the National League Championship Series.
