Tim Campbell, Brother of Texas Legend Earl Campbell, Passes at 68
(Tyler, TX) The story of Earl Campbell, The Tyler Rose, is well known all throughout Texas and football fans everywhere.
While he's remembered as one of the all time greats, its largely forgotten that he also had brothers who were football stars in their own right although they played in the shadows of their big brother.
Tim Campbell Was A Legendary Pass Rusher For The Longhorns.
Earl along with his twin brothers Tim and Steve were three of 11 kids raised by Ann Campbell who played together for John Tyler High School, winning a state championship on a 15-0 team in 1973.
The twins would follow their big brother to Austin and enroll at UT a year after him. Tim would go on to become a star on defense leading Texas in sacks in 1975 (13), 1977 (14) and tying for the team lead in 1979 (7.5).
Tim Campbell still ranks No. 2 all-time in sacks for the Longhorns and is the only Texas player to record at least 13 sacks in two different seasons.
One of the great moments for the Campbell family came in the 1975 Bluebonnet Bowl when Tim, in his freshman season, was named the defensive MVP of the game, and Earl was named the offensive MVP.
Tim played for the Longhorns from 1975 to 1979 and was a first-team All-Southwest Conference selection for the 1977 SWC championship team, the same year Earl Campbell won the Heisman Trophy.
Following his college playing career, Campbell worked for Austin Parks and Recreation for 10 years before taking a similar position in Tyler for the next 20. In 2012 he was hired as the public works officer in Jacksonville.
According to the several reports, Tim Campbell passed away of cancer in his hometown of Tyler. He was 68.
