Times are tough across the country, and Texas is no different. We've seen the increase in cost of living just as much as anyone else, and we've seen plenty of people struggling to make ends meet.

One thing that Texas seemingly had on its side was the unemployment rate. We've had one of the lowest in the country for quite some time now.

However, that may be changing unfortunately.

We've heard and seen all the federally funded employers that have had to cut jobs recently, putting many people across the country out of work. We've seen it locally in Amarillo, as well as across the state.

Pantex, Lake Meredith, etc. right here in our backyard.

Now, we're starting to get some of the numbers back on how many people are finding themselves without work once previously having a job.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Texas saw it's jobless claims rise by over 3,000 new claims in just the course of one week. The number of jobless claims was 19,169 for the week ending on June 7.

The week prior? It was sitting at 15,825.

While that number seems big, it wasn't anywhere near the biggest jump. That belonged to Iowa that saw a staggering 175.5% increase in jobless claims, so the number Texas saw seems to pale in comparison to that.

There were some states that even saw a decrease in jobless claims, including Kentucky that saw claims drop by a little over 72%.

For now, it seems like Texas is a bit on the downswing.
