Texas Dissolves Its Lottery Commission Amid Scandal
It's been one of the most talked-about scandals in recent Texas history. The Texas Lottery and the ability to purchase hundreds of thousands of tickets at once, and being able to slash the odds in your favor.
Sure, if you have the means and ability to purchase that many tickets, more power to you. However, to build that many combinations on your own and then have someone print those tickets would take days, if not weeks.
The Ease Of Lottery Couriers
As technology advanced, the introduction of online apps that allowed you to quickly purchase tickets came into play. Then lottery couriers hit the scene, and that's when things took a huge turn and made it easy to purchase thousands of combinations in a very short amount of time.
However, concerns started being raised around claims of money laundering, or just flat-out manipulation. This is when the state stepped in and started investigating them. They agreed that some changes needed to be made. The beginning of those changes is now upon us.

What Must The Texas Lottery Get Rid Of
Senate Bill 3070 states that the Texas Lottery Commission is going to be dissolved, and it will now be run by the Department of Licensing and Regulation. This will allow the state to be the one to monitor and determine how the lottery can be played in Texas.
Along with that change, the ability to purchase tickets online or via lottery couriers will disappear. You will have to physically purchase your tickets from now on if you want to play.
Why Were There Issues With The Couriers And Apps
The biggest problem with those was that many were concerned about questionable wins coming from those options. The ability to purchase so many tickets in one fell swoop dramatically decreased the chances of an everyday player winning.
These options made the ability to launder money via the lottery very easy, as there weren't any true eyes on them. If someone brought $10,000 into a convenience store to purchase lottery tickets, there would be a lot of questions, and SOMEONE would've been notified.
What Is The Reason For Dissolving The Texas Lottery Commission
A big part of it is that lawmakers believe there was some potential "criminal organization" activity happening within the commission. What those things are remains a bit unclear, but they do believe something was happening internally, and they believe dissolving it will bring back the trust in the Texas Lottery.
By removing it, the state will place limits on how many tickets can be purchased or how much can be spent per transaction. This will keep the odds manageable for all players and not have someone out there with a guaranteed jackpot by purchasing all the number combinations.
