Foster Children Removed from Louisiana Home Following Major Drug Bust in Opelousas
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that Shona Johnson, 57, was taken into custody after detectives discovered evidence linking her to the manufacturing and distribution of illegal substances.
Johnson now faces several charges, including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and crack cocaine, manufacturing fentanyl, and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, all in the presence of minors.
Local authorities began investigating Johnson’s home after receiving a tip about suspected drug activity. Albert Denton was seen at the home and was later stopped by police for a traffic violation.
The police canine alerted the officers that there were drugs in the car. Detectives found three small bags of fentanyl. Denton was arrested and charged with drug possession, while two other adult passengers were issued misdemeanor summons.
With probable cause established, detectives obtained a search warrant for Johnson's home. Inside, they discovered 30 grams of fentanyl valued at $3,000, 21 rocks of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and drug-processing equipment, including digital scales and blenders.
Four juvenile foster children were in the home at the time of the search.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz told KLFY that The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) immediately removed the children, placing them in safer care. Johnson is currently being held without bond, while Denton was released on a $5,250 bond.
Authorities encourage anyone with information regarding this case to contact the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 948-6516.
