UPDATE: All lanes are now open.

An accident involving two semi-trucks has completely blocked both eastbound lanes of I-10 near LA-975 at Mile Marker 130 on the Basin Bridge.

The crash occurred around 4:23 PM on Monday, December 9, 2024, and as of the latest update at 5:37 PM, traffic remains at a standstill.

Louisiana State Police posted an update at 6:20 stating:

"Troopers are on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash involving multiple Commercial Motor Vehicles on Interstate 10 Eastbound near mile post 130 (in the vicinty of Whiskey Bay). Please be patient as first responders work to reopen the roadway as safely and quickly as possible. The road is currently closed at this location.

Expect delays and consider using alternate routes. Visit www.511la.org for information on road conditions and closures."

If planning to travel Eastbound on the Atchafalaya basin bridge, it would be best to find an alternative route at this time.

A photo sent to WBRZ shows one of the semi-trucks jack-knifed, pushing into another lane and creating a significant obstruction. Current traffic camera footage indicates congestion backed up past Whiskey Bay, with no estimated time for lane reopening.

Drivers heading eastbound on I-10 are strongly urged to seek alternate routes to avoid the gridlock. Delays are expected to persist into the evening, so plan accordingly. Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.
