Everyone knows that everything is bigger in Texas. As much as we love to do things big here, we tend to forget about the smaller parts of our State. Texas has some of the biggest cities but we overlook the little guys. Small towns always give the best homey vibes.

Being from a small town in Texas I know there is no shortage of them. Even though I grew up in Odessa/Midland most of my life, I lived in a small border town until I was 8. It is a cozy town in El Paso County and is called Fabens. With a population of around 5,000 people, Fabens makes it to the small town list of Texas. As small as my hometown is, this is not even close to the smallest town in the state.

With a whopping total of 5 people Guerra takes the first place medal. Guerra is located in Jim Hog County in South Texas. You could visit the smaller town if you wanted to make the almost 8-hour drive from the Permian Basin. Guerra sits about 20 miles from the Mexican border.

When Guerra was first established it was called El Colorado, because of the red cattle found in the area. It was established in the late 1800's and wasn't so teeny tiny in its younger days, around 1914 the population peaked at 100 people. After that, the town population hovered around 50 people through the 60's. Once the population hit 15 the local post office closed its doors in 1990.

Seeing that I can't walk around H-E-B without stepping on someone's toes, maybe we should see about sending some people down south to Guerra. We can get that post office opened up again in no time!
