El Paso’s First Snow Day of the Year Had Everyone Snapping Pics (And Playing in It!)

El Pasoans woke up to a winter wonderland this week as the Sun City experienced its first snow day of the year! While the snow didn’t stick around for long, it was just enough to turn the desert landscape into a snowy dreamscape for a few magical hours.

Schools across the city adjusted their schedules, with some letting students out early and others opting for delayed starts. (Shoutout to the kids who got an unexpected mini-vacation!)

Social media exploded with snow-day selfies and snowfall photos featuring everything from pets’ first snow experiences to snow man attempts.

One brave viewer sent in a photo of their windshield under what we can only describe as a catastrophic snowstorm.

The car was absolutely buried under a devastating dusting of frost. We hope they survived Snowpocalypse 2025 with minimal trauma. Thoughts and prayers. (Sarcasm at it’s finest)

But no one captures El Paso’s weather events quite like local photographer Christian Churches.

Whether it’s a jaw-dropping sunset, a rare rainstorm, or this snowy surprise, Christian's photos always highlight the city’s beauty in ways that make you want to frame them.

Sure, the snow didn’t last long—by the afternoon, most of it had melted away, But for a city that rarely sees snow, it was a magical moment and that was proven to be true when you look at the amazing photo’s Christian snapped before the El Paso snow melted away.

For those who missed the excitement, don’t hold your breath for more snow this week. The forecast calls for sunny skies, but the cold temperatures are here to stay. So, keep your jackets handy and your space heaters plugged in.

Here’s hoping Mother Nature has a few more surprises up her frosty sleeve this winter!
