With National Signing Day less than one week away, the recruitment of Marshall 2016 safety Micahh Smith has begun to pick up steam.

Smith (5-11, 185) reported two Division I offers Friday within an hour of one another, announcing scholarship invitations from both Arkansas and Abilene Christian through his Twitter account.

The Marshall senior is taking an official visit to Arkansas this weekend.

Smith now has two FBS offers as the Razorbacks joined Texas State, which offered him several months ago. The Mavs' playmaker is also the target of several FCS schools, including SFA, which offered Smith last week.

Arkansas competes in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference and is coached by Bret Bielema. The Razorbacks are coming off an 8-5 season in 2015, which featured a 5-3 mark in SEC play. Arkansas capped the year with a 45-23 win over Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2.

The Razorbacks currently have two native East Texans on their roster -- junior defensive back D.J. Dean (Newton) and junior receiver Eric Hawkins (Longview).

Abilene Christian is a member of the Southland Conference. The Wildcats, coached by Ken Collums, finished 2015 with a 3-8 overall record and 3-5 mark in league play.

Three East Texans are currently members of the ACU football program -- sophomore fullback Will Weathers (Bullard Brook Hill), sophomore offensive lineman Hayden Wall (Hallsville), and sophomore defensive lineman Travaughn Moore (John Tyler).

Smith helped lead Marshall to a share of the District 15-5A championship as a senior. He finished with a team-best 120 tackles (three for loss), and had three interceptions, broke up seven passes, forced one fumble and recovered two others.

The Mavs finished the season 11-2 overall, falling to eventual state finalist Frisco Lone Star in the regional semifinal round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.

Smith, like all 2016 prospects, can officially sign with the school of their choosing on Feb. 3.
