It's always something when the first offer you receive comes from the Southeastern Conference.

Mississippi State visited John Tyler on Wednesday and extended offers to sophomore linebacker Martrevious "Tre" Allison and sophomore defensive end Dekalen Goodson. John Tyler's football Twitter account, overseen by head coach Ricklan Holmes, first reported the news.

The Bulldogs program visited other East Texas schools during the day. It offered Henderson receiver Trestan Ebner, a junior, in the process.

Allison (6-2, 200) recorded 65 tackles during his sophomore season. He also carried the ball 59 times for 141 yards and six touchdowns through 12 games.

Goodson (6-2, 215) made 32 tackles, including six sacks and one tackle for loss, as a sophomore in eight games played.

The pair are the second and third current sophomores to receive FBS offers. Marshall guard Chasen Hines got an opportunity from Baylor last week.

Allison, Goodson and Hines will attend the ETSN + APEC Football Recruiting Combine on Sunday.

John Tyler finished the 2015 season with an 8-4 overall record. It advanced to the Class 5A Division I area round last season before falling to state runner-up Mansfield Lake Ridge.

Due to a growing student population, John Tyler was realigned to Class 6A in February. It will face Longview, Mesquite, Mesquite Horn, North Mesquite, Rockwall, Rockwall-Heath and chief rival Tyler Lee in District 11-6A competition.

Mississippi State posted an 8-4 regular season record last year and only lost to opponents ranked 14th or higher in the Associated Press’ weekly polls. It then thoroughly defeated North Carolina State in the Belk Bowl to finish the campaign.

Dan Mullen is starting his eighth year as head coach in Starkville, Miss. His Bulldogs teams have finished seasons ranked two times and have reached bowl games six times.

Mullen has not endured a losing season since his first year in 2009 — a 5-7 record — and that followed a 4-8 season in 2008 under Sylvester Croom.

Mississippi State is a year removed from a 10-2 regular season with three wins against top 10 teams.

Allison and Goodson will become eligible to sign with any program that offers them in February of 2018.
