ARLINGTON -- For 24 minutes, the undefeated and heavily-favored Gilmer Buckeyes were beaten like they'd never been beaten all season. But they weren't beat. ARLINGTON -- Two years removed from a hard loss to Navasota, the Gilmer Buckeyes returned to the postgame championship interview room podium to discuss their latest state title game. This time as Class 4A Division II champions. The best of more than 80 teams statewide in the division. The third of three state championship teams in school history, dating back to its first win in 2004.

ARLINGTON -- Gilmer quarterback McLane Carter took a knee. Then he did it again. The second kneel punctuated a perfect season. 16-0. The Buckeyes were state champions.

ARLINGTON -- Chantz Perkins put the final touches on Mineola's dream season with an 8-yard touchdown score with no time on the clock. That cut Cameron Yoe's final margin of victory down to 70-40 Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Yellowjackets fell a bit short of the ultimate goal in their first ever football state championship game appearance.

ARLINGTON -- To become a state champion, Waskom head coach Whitney Keeling knew his team would have to put forth its best effort of the season. They went a step further. Waskom dominated in all three phases -- scoring on offense, defense, and special teams -- en route to a 41-22 victory Thursday night over Newton before 13,492 fans at AT&T Stadium in the Class 3A Division II title game. ARLINGTON -- AT&T Stadium's 60-yard-long screen showed a Waskom fan with a sign during the first half of the Wildcats' 41-22 win over Newton in the Class 3A Division II state championship on Thursday.

ARLINGTON -- Newton had the lead on Waskom for exactly 15 seconds on Thursday at AT&T Stadium.
