ARLINGTON -- Two years removed from a hard loss to Navasota, the Gilmer Buckeyes returned to the postgame championship interview room podium to discuss their latest state title game. This time as Class 4A Division II champions. The best of more than 80 teams statewide in the division. The third of three state championship teams in school history, dating back to its first win in 2004.

ARLINGTON -- Gilmer quarterback McLane Carter took a knee. Then he did it again. The second kneel punctuated a perfect season. 16-0. The Buckeyes were state champions.

ARLINGTON -- Chantz Perkins put the final touches on Mineola's dream season with an 8-yard touchdown score with no time on the clock. That cut Cameron Yoe's final margin of victory down to 70-40 Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Yellowjackets fell a bit short of the ultimate goal in their first ever football state championship game appearance.
