The road toward a state championship for East Texas Class 5A schools the past two seasons simply ran through the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. There will be many more areas to keep an eye on during the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 academic years.

The UIL delivered no surprises in the way of East Texas' realignment in the state's largest classification Monday morning. As expected, Class 6A newcomers John Tyler and Longview will be paired with former district rival Tyler Lee in a league also comprised of schools from Mesquite and Rockwall, while Lufkin's jump back up in class has resulted in the Panthers re-districting into the north Houston

Tyler Lee may not be the only East Texas member of Class 6A when the University Interscholastic League's biennial realignment and reclassification process takes place in February. John Tyler and Longview, which are currently classified as 5A schools, each turned in enrollment figures well above the 6A/5A cutoff from two years ago on Friday for UIL's "Snapshot Day."
