2016 Baseball Playoffs

McKINNEY -- There's no better way for Joe Pearlman to finish his Pleasant Grove career. It largely started at the state tournament in 2013 and it will end there next week. The Hawks took out two years of frustration on Argyle in their 8-1 win Saturday in the Class 4A Region II championship game at McKinney Boyd's Bronco Field.

TYLER -- When Whitehouse hits the field at Dell Diamond in Round Rock next week, fans of San Antonio Alamo Heights and two other teams to be determined later this weekend will see just another club with credentials to win the Class 5A state championship. Come playoff time next year, however, most local coaches will want to talk about a Whitehouse team that reached the state tournament after finishing fourth in its district. Rather than a team that reached the final round of regional competition.

TYLER -- Tyler Jeans got thrown into an interesting spot Saturday in Game 2 of Pleasant Grove's series sweep against Celina. The Hawks' junior pinch hitter helped his club overcome a minor early game deficit with one swing of the bat and spearheaded a seven-run fourth inning in Pleasant Grove's 9-5 win in Game 2 of the Class 4A Region II semifinals round at Mike Carter Field.

BASEBALL REGIONAL SEMIFINALS CLASS 5A Region II Whitehouse 3, Wylie 2 (Whitehouse wins series, 2-0)

TYLER -- Whitehouse survived Wylie's seventh inning comeback attempt and held on for a 3-2 Game 2 win as well as a Class 5A Region II semifinal series sweep Friday at Mike Carter Field. The Wildcats' defense held 10 of 12 Wylie base runners off the board through the contest and did not cede any runs before recording the second out of the seventh inning.
