TYLER -- Athens completed a year-long dream Saturday in the girls' Class 4A Region II championship game. That does not mean the story is over though. The Lady Hornets advanced to the state tournament in Georgetown with a 6-2 win against Terrell. A win nearly as lopsided as last season's loss in the same game at the same CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium venue.

LINDALE -- Pittsburg scored two goals in less than a minute and hung on late to defeat Athens in the Class 4A area round Friday at Lindale's Eagle Stadium. Senior captain Cristian Martinez notched an assist at the 33:55 mark of the second half and then scored from more than 20 yards out at the 33:10 mark en route to a 2-1 victory.

Athens linebacker Noah Bush joined the fold Sunday, he announced through his personal Twitter account, and became the second local prospect to give a verbal commitment to the Falcons. He follows Tatum hybrid linebacker and defensive end D'Torian Smith, who has been committed to the university since July.
