TYLER -- Timpson head coach James Conway is known for having great defenses. It was only fitting that his first victory as Bears coach would be a defensive show.

TYLER -- First-year Tyler Lee coach Darrell Piske wanted to make a statement in his first game on the Red Raiders sideline, but he'll have to wait at least one more week for his first win at Lee.

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Coppell forced three-first quarter turnovers and closed the first half by flipping a cliche around on Longview.

TYLER -- Derek Allen rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns and the Pittsburg Pirates defense came away with four turnovers in Pittsburg's 46-15 rout of Wills Point on Saturday afternoon at TMF Rose Stadium.

DAINGERFIELD -- On the opening play of the 2012 football season, Gladewater quarterback Derrick Daniels took a zone-read 68 yards down the sideline to the 12. Two plays later, he scored on a 12-yard run, and the Bears rushing attack never let up.

VAN — Sophomore running back Matt Savis ran for 212 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries, and Van topped Pine Tree 41-28 on Friday night at Van Memorial Stadium.

Josiah Johnson had a big night on the ground and the Lindale defense forced five Chapel Hill turnovers in the Eagles' 31-14 win over the defending Class 3A Division I state champion Bulldogs on Friday night at Eagle Stadium.

TATUM – Senior quarterback Darian Brooks, making his second career start, passed for 170-yards and rushed for 113 yards while having a hand in three total touchdowns to help Tatum defeat Arp 41-21 in Friday's season opener at Eagle Stadium.

WHITEHOUSE -- Whitehouse used its trademark passing game to claim a season-opening home win, 35-18, against Hallsville on Friday night behind junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes' big night.

KILGORE -- Both Kilgore and Marshall looked like they had first-game jitters in the first quarter. Kilgore got over its jitters. Marshall never did.
