It's only the league opener, but Athens' trip to Van could be for the District 8-4A Div. I crown.

There aren't two more intriguing teams in the district than the Hornets and Vandals. Both squads consist of promising offenses.

Athens' Travon Fuller headlines the key players with his early scholarship opportunity to Texas A&M. He was tied for the East Texas lead in interceptions as just a sophomore last season.

He also is an explosive offensive player and serves athletic duties on the Hornets' special teams.

Power running back Logan Fuller (5-8, 203) scored 27 touchdowns on the ground and rushed for more than 1,700 yards in 11 games last year. He'll have to deal with Van linebacker Brice Borgeson and a good group of defenders in this outing though.

Van has multiple athletes across its offense and a good line shored up by Wyatt Santos.

The remainder of the district consists Crandall, Kaufman, Mabank and Willis Point. Athens and Van are, in all likelihood, playoff bound teams in the six-team league.

Winning this game gives one of the teams a leg up in the Week 7 standings and a trump card when it comes to seeding, hopefully helping one of the two teams avoid Liberty-Eylau, Pittsburg or a Paris school in the bi-district round.
