RUSK -- Carthage hopped to 2-0 in District 16-4A competition and elevated its overall record to 25-6 Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-12 victory at Rusk.

Alli Capps and Faith Landreneaux both reached double-digit scoring in the contest. Capps recorded 15 kills and Landreneaux scored on 11 kills.

Cindrasha Boykin got close with eight kills and Carson Robertson led in the assist department with 31.

Carthage will host Henderson on Friday. Rusk will host Center on Saturday for its next match.

 

Rains Topples Mabank In Four

MABANK -- Emory Rains remained unbeaten in District 13-4A thanks to a 25-15, 16-25, 25-21, 25-16 win at Mabank.

Shelbi Sheppard served up 34 assists in the match for the winning side and McKenna Hildebrant had a particularly big night in the front court with a team-best 10 blocks.

Charlotte Bradshaw scored 19 total points for Rains (25-7, 2-0) on 18 kills and one aced serve.

Rains will be back in action Friday at home against Canton.

 

Troup Hops Above .500 In District

TROUP -- Troup swept West Rusk, 25-16, 25-13, 25-14, to elevate its District 15-3A record to 3-2.

Katrina Noyola recorded a team-best eight kills in the win and now has 202 total points in 27 matches toward a 17-10 overall record. Natalie Davenport set up 18 points in the match and got past the 400-assist threshold for the season.

Troup also closed the book on West Rusk for the season with a 2-0 head-to-head record. It will be back in action next Tuesday and hosts Arp.

West Rusk, meanwhile, has a non-district game against Tyler Grace next Tuesday.

 

Beckville Keeps Rolling

BECKVILLE -- Kinley Pepper and Kinley Blair guided Beckville to a 25-23, 25-13, 25-13 win against Elysian Fields and broke a first-place tie in District 16-3A..

Pepper recorded 33 assists in the match. Blair scored a team-best 13 points on 10 kills, two blocks and one aced serve.

Riley Seegers also hit double digits in the match on seven kills and four blocks for Beckville (24-4, 5-0).

Beckville will travel Friday to Ore City. Elysian Fields will simultaneously host White Oak in a battle on teams tied for second place within the district.

 

Gary Sweeps Shelbyville

GARY -- Gary cruised to a 25-8, 25-11, 25-12 win against Shelbyville.

The win lifted Gary to 3-1 in District 20-2A competition while Shelbyville fell to 0-4.

Taylor Rodgers had a big night for the winning side. She recorded 27 assists and added four points on three kills and an aced serve.

Leann Youngblood scored on 12 kills and seven aced serves.

Gary will host Overton on Friday. Shelbyville will remain on the road Friday to play Timpson.

 

Carlisle Breezes By San Augustine

SAN AUGUSTINE -- Carlie swept San Augustine, 25-10, 25-14, 25-22, behind the trio of Heather Craig, Haley Jordan and Cheyenne Vannier elsewhere in District 20-2A.

Craig scored a team-best 14 points on eight kills and six aces. Jordan hit double digits as well with 13 kills.

Vannier recorded 25 assists and added to the offensive total with three kills and three aces.

Carlisle, which is now 3-1 in the district, hosts Big Sandy on Friday. San Augustine, 1-3 in district play, will hit the road Friday to visit Leverett's Chapel.
