It's been a pretty good 24 hours for Arp's Demarvion Overshown.

Arp scratched out a 19-13 win Friday evening against Troup and the universal athlete then picked up his first NCAA Division I FBS scholarship opportunity Saturday morning. UTSA did the honor ahead of a primetime Conference USA game at the Alamodome against UTEP.

Overshown (6-4, 196), who reported the news through his Twitter account, is the fourth junior among East Texas' 2018 recruiting class to receive an offer from an FBS program. John Tyler defensive end Dekalen Goodson, John Tyler linebacker Tre Allison and Marshall guard Chasen Hines are the only other players being recruited at the highest level at this point in time.

The Roadrunners (3-3) are off to their second-best start in their six-year history under first-year head coach Frank Wilson, and this is the program's absolute best start considering the strength of schedule. UTSA's 2012 team began its campaign with a 5-0 record and finished the year 7-5, but it played two NCAA Division II teams during its undefeated stretch.

UTSA's current team is on a two-game winning streak and garnered some early-season attention in a four-point loss to Arizona State the week after the Sun Devils beat Texas Tech by a score of 68-55.

The Roadrunners are seeking their first bowl game appearance and probably need to win three more games in the back half of the season to accomplish the feat, starting today with UTEP (1-5).

Arp, meanwhile, has worked its way to a 7-2 overall record and into a tie for second place in the District 9-3A Division II standings with a 4-1 league record.

Overshown averages slightly more than 10 tackles per game and has recorded one interception in the team's nine games. He doubles as a receiver.

Arp's regular season will end next week at Harleton and its postseason run will begin between Nov. 10 and Nov. 12.

Like all high school juniors with football scholarship opportunities, Overshown will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February of 2018.
