FORNEY -- Winona's best season in a full generation will continue at least one more week following a 35-28 victory Friday over Whitewright at Forney's City Bank Stadium in the Class 3A Division II, Region II semifinal round.

The Wildcats (8-5) scored two unanswered touchdowns in the second half to erase what had been a 21-7 lead for Whitewright (8-5) at its worst and what was a 28-21 deficit at halftime.

Winona's game-winning drive, capped by a short Quinn Johnson run, began in the final minutes of the third quarter and lasted all the way to the 5:20 mark of the final period.

Whitewright got stuffed in its followup and the Wildcats were able to run out the clock.

Winona will be back at City Bank Stadium next Friday to play undefeated Gunter.
