Several East Texas players earned recognition on the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 5A all-state high school football team, which was released Wednesday.
District co-champions Whitehouse and Lindale racked up six of the seven superlatives on the 16-5A all-district volleyball team, which was voted on by the league's coaches.

Talk about going from a major low to new heights only a select few in East Texans can understand.
Texas A&M offered Lufkin senior offensive lineman Erik McCoy on Saturday, less than 24 hours after the Panthers' season came to an end on Longview's late two-point conversion in the Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff round. The standout committed immediately and then announced the news to the world Sunday.
TYLER -- Longview coach John King wasn't going to leave anything to chance, especially after he witnessed his team fall into a 28-point hole in the first half. He wanted no part of overtime.

A total of seven East Texas teams in four different classifications concluded the regular season ranked in the final Associated Press top 10 polls, which were released Monday.
For years, the foursome of John Tyler, Longview, Lufkin and Tyler Lee shared the same district. They no longer are guaranteed to annually play one another, but they all four share something else in common.
LUFKIN -- Trey Cumbie threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns -- mostly in the first half -- as the Lufkin Panthers beat the Jacksonville Indians, 51-6, in the District 16-5A regular-season finale at Abe Martin Stadium.
As the regular season enters its final week, East Texas' best football teams continue to leave an impression on statewide voters for the Associated Press high school football poll, as seven area teams remained ranked among their respective classification's top 10.
