Laettner Greenhill threw six strikeouts while allowing four walks and two hits against Lufkin.

LINDALE -- Laettner Grennhill threw a two-hit shutout and helped keep the Eagles alive in the chase for District 16-5A's second playoff seed Tuesday at the Lindale I.S.D. Baseball Complex.

Greenhill and Lindale at large accomplished the feat with 104 pitches in a 4-0 win against Lufkin, allowing four walks to six strikeouts in the process.

TYLER -- Three missed shots in the final three rounds of penalty kicks stopped the Lufkin girls team's playoff quest Friday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Mansfield Lake Ridge capitalized on those misses to squeak out a 3-2 penalty kicks victory in the Class 5A area round following a 1-1 draw through regulation and two 10-minute halves of non-sudden death overtime.

Lufkin Holds Off Whitehouse To Retain Lead In Early District 16-5A Race

Lufkin starting pitcher Logan Lair allowed four hits on 74 pitches to earn the win in the Panthers' 5-3 victory Friday at Whitehouse.

WHITEHOUSE -- The Wildcats responded very well after a disastrous defensive fourth inning. Lufkin relief pitcher Christian Stephens was just one step ahead of the rally and helped the Panthers to a 5-3 win Friday in District 16-5A competition.

Stephens was inserted into the game with one out and two Whitehouse runners in scoring position immediately after it scored its second run of the game. He allowed one run charged to the starting pitcher and then stopped a promising bottom of the fifth inning right in its tracks toward a long save effort at Wildcat Field.
