Malik Jackson is the ninth junior in East Texas' football recruiting class to own at least one NCAA Division I FBS offer.

Arkansas State made the Lufkin receiver its first target of the local 2018 class Wednesday. Jackson (6-0, 170) announced the news through his personal Twitter account.

JACKSONVILLE -- John Tyler looked a little more like the team that won the Dallas ISD Holiday Invitational and less like the team that scraped into the postseason by winning a district fourth-place game in its 46-39 victory Monday against first-seed Lufkin in the state playoffs.

It wasn't a perfect outing by any stretch of the imagination, but the team that gave the region its best hope of making a deep postseason run back in December survived the Class 6A bi-district round and will indeed venture out of the area for meaningful games.

LONGVIEW -- If Friday's Silver Bracket championship game had gone another five minutes, it just might have been have been Pine Tree bussing back across town with a first-place trophy from the Leroy Romines Memorial Basketball Tournament.

Lufkin completely emptied whatever it had left in the tank before the fourth quarter began at Longview High School's Lobo Coliseum, but that was enough to secure a 57-49 win and a fourth victory through six games played in 72 hours.
