MESQUITE -- The Bullard Brook Hill Guard opened up TAPPS Division II, District 2 play with a 23-20 win over Dallas Christian on Friday night.

Caleb Chadwell's 30-yard field goal with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter provided the game-winning points.

Grant Hanks led the way for Brook Hill (2-1, 1-0) by completing 19 of 30 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Lucio rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries.

Chase McDermott had a big night, hauling in seven receptions for 142 yards. Seth Brasher added six catches for 88 yards and a touchdown.

After a scoreless first quarter, the teams combined for 30 points in the second period.

Hanks connected with Brasher for a 6-yard touchdown to give Brook Hill a 7-0 lead, Lucio's 1-yard touchdown run gave the Guard a 14-7 advantage, and Chadwell's 29-yard field goal with three seconds remaining in half gave Brook Hill a 17-13 lead at halftime.

Chadwell increased the Brook Hill lead to 20-13 midway through the third quarter with a 21-yard field goal, but Dallas Christian returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to even the game at 20-20 with 6:57 to play in the third.

Brook Hill returns to action Oct. 3 at home against Dallas Shelton.
