Connor Hearron + White Oak Take Down No. 7 Pottsboro, 24-9, in Area-Round Upset
TERRELL -- White Oak took on a tall order, and the Roughnecks walked away with a mammoth upset.
Connor Hearron scored the a touchdown to ice White Oak's 24-9 win over No. 7 Pottsboro on Friday night in the area round of the Class 3A Division I playoffs.
White Oak (10-2) moves on to face Sunnyvale -- a 38-13 winner over Daingerfield on Friday -- in the regional round on Friday in Van. It was the only loss of the season for Pottsboro (11-1).
Holding on to a 17-9 lead with 6:18 left in the game, the Roughnecks called Hearron's number six times during a seven-play drive that saw him score a 20-yard touchdown with 2:35 left to put the game away.
Hearron, who finished with 88 yards on 20 carries, added another touchdown in the first quarter to put White Oak up 14-0.
Pottsboro cut the lead to 14-3 late in the second quarter on a field goal, but White Oak was able to add a field goal of its own to take a 17-3 lead into halftime.
