ROYSE CITY -- Curtis Williams ran for 201 yards and four touchdowns to rally West Mesquite in the second half in a 30-27 upset win over No. 8 Texas High in a Class 5A bi-district game on Friday at Royse City ISD Stadium.

Wililams, who ran the ball 36 times in the game, scored three times in the second half as Mesquite erased an early 14-0 deficit en route to the win.

Texas High suffered its first loss of the season in the first round of the playoffs, as the Tigers ended their 2016 campaign at 10-1. West Mesquite improved to 7-4.

Texas High took an early 14-0 lead on a 72-yard touchdown pass from Cade Pearson to Tevailance Hunt and a 5-yard touchdown run by Devuntay Walker. But West Mesquite cut the lead to 14-9 at halftime after Angel Chavarria's 37-yard field goal and Williams scored the first of his four touchdowns.

Williams scored from 6 and 5 yards out in the third quarter to give West Mesquite a 23-14 lead, only to see it turn into a 27-23 deficit after consecutive touchdown runs by Texas High's Markese Martin, who rushed for 62 yards on nine carries in the game.

But Williams responded with his fourth touchdown of the game with 3:41 left ont he clock to give West Mesquite the upset win.

West Mesquite faces Frisco Wakeland in the area round of the playoffs.
