ETSN.fm Preseason Class 3A Poll: No. 1, Mineola Yellowjackets
The Mineola Yellowjackets are in the midst of an historic run, unprecedented in its program's existence.
Since the beginning of the 2014 season, Mineola is 26-5, having played for a state title and reached the state semifinals in each of the last two years.
With 19 starters returning, including all 11 on defense, the Yellowjackets begin the season ranked No. 1 in ETSN.fm's Preseason Class 3A Poll.
Offensively, Mineola will miss its offensive line duo of twin brothers Austin and Riley Anderson (Texas A&M), but there is more than enough firepower returning to compensate.
Quarterback Jeremiah Crawford, a three-year starter, totaled more than 4,000 yards of offense and accounted for 46 touchdowns in 2015. Senior running back Chantz Perkins, the team's workhorse, is back after rushing for more than 2,000 yards and 27 TDs a season ago.
Mineola's defense returns 100 percent intact. The 'Jackets are led up front by linemen Devon Goguen and Kourtland Sinches, while linebacker Michael Drennon and defensive back Noah Sneed are two of the top defensive playmakers in all of East Texas.
