TEXARKANA -- The Marshall Mavericks began the second round of District 16-5A play on a positive note, taking down Texas High on Friday night, 9-6.

Marshall (14-9, 4-3) suffered a 3-2 home loss to the Tigers in the league opener on March 14. The Mavericks took over sole possession of third place in the district with Friday's win.

The Mavs scored three times over the sixth and seventh innings to break a tie following a wild first four innings.

Marshall led 6-0 after two innings, highlighted by Mavs catcher and Texas A&M signee Cameron Haller's two-run home run in the second.

Dakota Turner's two-RBI double in the bottom half of the inning began a string of six consecutive runs scored by Texas High (10-11, 3-4), which tied the game a pair of runs in the fourth.

Marshall returns to the field Tuesday night at home against first-place Sulphur Springs, while Texas High is off Tuesday before taking on Sulphur Springs on the road Thursday.

 

Brook Hill Rips Bishop Gorman

TYLER -- The Bullard Brook Hill Guard rolled to a 13-1 win over Tyler Bishop Gorman in five innings, Friday in TAPPS District 2-5A action.

Tyler Overbeek was a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple, double, and three RBIs to lead Brook Hill at the plate. Meanwhile, Josh Jenkins went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs.

Seth Moss (2-for-3, RBI, two runs), Miguel Vega (2-for-3, walk, run), Logan Langford (2-for-3, walk, two runs), and Logan Fitzgerald (2-for-3, two runs) all added multiple-hit efforts as part of the Guard's 17-hit attack.

Reid Hill pitched four innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound. Overbook struck out the side in a perfect fifth, his only inning of work.

Brook Hill travels to Dallas Christian on Saturday afternoon, while Gorman returns to action Tuesday at Brook Hill.
