LONGVIEW -- John Tyler had four players reach double-digit figures and needed each one of them to hold off Longview, 63-57, in District 11-6A competition.

A 19-point third quarter didn't hurt, either. The Lady Lions rallied from a 29-28 halftime deficit and won the game in spite of being outscored in the first, second and fourth periods.

Alyssa Mayfield scored a game-best 19 points for John Tyler. Shay Johnson, Daz Johnson, and Destini Whitehead complimented with 15, 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Lady Lions' victory extended a winning streak that began Dec. 13 against Rockwall in the district opener. Since then, the team won the Dallas ISD Holiday Invitational and are now 4-0 in league play.

John Tyler hosts Mesquite Horn on Tuesday. Longview will try to bounce back at Rockwall-Heath.

Chapel Hill Pounds Gladewater

GLADEWATER -- Chapel Hill opened its District 15-4A schedule on a high note, 68-30, against Gladewater.

Mykaela Alfred scored a game-best 24 points and April Walker chipped in 19 more points. Combined, they outscored Gladewater's team.

Chapel Hill's defense held all Gladewater scorers to seven or less points.

Gladewater and Chapel Hill will be on the road Tuesday to face Kilgore and Bullard, respectively.
