BRONTE -- Beckville defeated Sterling City, Abbott, Hubbard and Bronte during Friday action at Bronte's Showdown of Texas Tournament.

Carson Blair scored a team-best six kills and Madi Mize served up four aces in the team's opening 25-7, 25-12 win against Sterling City.

Kassidy Alexander had a big match against Abbott, a 25-8, 25-7 decision, with 14 of the Ladycats' 15 assists. Natalie Morris chipped in five aces, but Abbott really lost the match on unforced errors.

Beckville set a tone early against Hubbard in a 25-7, 25-10 match victory. The team combined for 15 aces and 21 kills.

The Ladycats' day wrapped up with a 25-7, 25-10 win against Bronte. Blair led the way with eight kills and Morris recorded another five aces.

Beckville's 4-0 record Friday sets it up for a rematch today with Bronte at 9 a.m. in bracket play.

 

Winona Beats Union Grove In Four Sets

UNION GROVE -- Winona battled back from a rough first set to defeat Union Grove 14-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 in the two team's non-district match.

Randayasha Hanson made the biggest offensive contribution with 14 assists and three aces. Nichole Garrett record a team-best 14 kills.

It was a great defensive day overall for Winona as well.

Hanson and Danita Timmons each recorded 14 digs. Janeth Tarango led the way with 31 digs and Mallori Shacklett finished with 18 digs.

 

Emory Rains Handles Kemp

FORNEY -- Emory Rains took care of Kemp with ease in a 25-6, 25-11, 25-5 win at the Forney I.S.D. Tournament

Ashley Gowin scored a team-best 18 kills. Shelbi Sheppard recorded 16 assists.

Courtney Luckett and Charlotte Bradshaw combined for 19 digs.

Rains will be back in action at 9 a.m. in a bracket game against Mesquite Horn.

 

Traylor Helps Gilmer Past Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Jaci Traylor recorded 39 assists to lead the way in Gilmer's 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 win against Mount Pleasant.

Christian Brown had a team-best 12 kills in the match. Destiny Brooks and Belynda Ray both finished close behind with 11 kills for the Lady Buckeyes.

Gilmer will host Harmony on Tuesday.
