TEXARKANA -- Ninth-ranked Gilmer got two late touchdown runs to pull away from Pleasant Grove, 31-10, in both teams' District 7-4A Division II opener Friday night.

The Buckeyes (5-1, 1-0) went into halftime up 16-10, but Kelton Collier (4 yards) and Red Jones (3 yards) scored within 59 seconds of each other in the fourth quarter to break the game open.

Collier led Gilmer on the ground with six carries for 67 yards.

Quarterback Aaron "Poppy" Brown completed 9 of 20 passes for 166 yards, a touchdown and an interception for Gilmer. His 19-yard touchdown pass to Desmond Jones gave Gilmer a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

After a Pleasant Grove field goal, Desmond Jones scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to put Gilmer up 14-3.

But Pleasant Grove (1-5, 0-1) responded with a 50-yard touchdown pass from T.J. Cole to Keshawn Jones to get within four points with 3:09 left in the first half.

Gilmer took a 16-10 lead into halftime after a Pleasant Grove snap went out of the end zone for a safety.

Jones led Pleasant Grove on the ground with 105 yards on seven carries. Cole completed 5 of 11 passes for 106 yards in the loss.
