HENDERSON -- It was worth the wait for the Lady Lions in their season-opener against Pittsburg.

Tomariyah Dixon's game-best 20 points helped Henderson thwart excellent Lady Pirates perimeter shooting for a 54-49 win Saturday.

Pittsburg (0-1) connected on nine 3-pointers in the contest, highlighted by four treys from senior guard Sydney Reynolds.

Inside the lanes, however, was another story. The Lady Lions enjoyed eight scorers in the contest and only got down one 3-point shot in the 32-minute game.

Destiny Roquemore and Ke'Iayna Ballard put up nine and eight points, respectively, behind Dixon to spearhead Henderson's winning combination.

Star Smith guided Pittsburg in defeat with 16 points. Reynolds tallied another 14 points for the losing side to round out all scorers in double digits.

Pittsburg will try to get its first win of the early season Tuesday in its home-opener against DeKalb. Henderson also will be in action Tuesday at Grapeland.
