John Tyler Explodes In Second Half To Eliminate Texas High

LONGVIEW, Texas—John Tyler quarterback Bryson Smith piled up more than 400 yards of offense and accounted for four touchdowns as John Tyler throttled past Texas High in the second half to claim a 48-21 Class 5A Division I bi-district win Saturday at Longview's Lobo Stadium.

The Lions (8-3) take an 8-game win streak into the area round and a matchup against Mansfield Lake Ridge (11-0). The Tigers finished their season at 8-3.

Smith rushed for 193 yards and passed for another 218 yards.

John Tyler's quarterback threw an early score, was 21-of-30 passing in the game, and ran for three scores in the second half to help John Tyler pull away. The game was tied at 14 during halftime, with the Tigers blocking a 45-yard field goal attempt on the final play of the first half to keep the score knotted.

Smith threw a 19-yard touchdown to Damion Miller on CUJO's first drive and connected with Ke'Andre Street for a 7-yard score on the final possession. Dejuan Beal also rushed for a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Texas High's Cade Pearson finished 11-of-25 for 135 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He threw scores to DeVuntay Walker to tie the game in the first quarter and Kip Williams in the fourth quarter to end a 20-point streak by the Lions.

Quan Hampton also connected with Tevailance Hunt on a half-back pass for a Texas High touchdown.

JaKardi Witcher finished with 66 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Tigers, who had 263 yards of total offense.

John Tyler piled up 499 total yards on 73 snaps.
