Texas State became the third Division I FBS school to extend a scholarship offer to John Tyler 2017 cornerback Javontavius Mosley, according to the official Twitter account for the Lions' program.

Mosley (6-0, 160) previously earned offers from Houston and SMU.

The Bobcats, who hired Everett Withers as their next head coach last month, compete in the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 3-9 and a league mark of 2-6.

Mosley was part of a strong John Tyler secondary this past season. He recorded 60 tackles, two interceptions, broke up 12 passes and recovered a fumble in the team’s run to a Class 5A Division II area round appearance.

The secondary featured two other underclassmen in Kieran Freeman and Da’Quaylon Kennedy. Together with Mosley, they combined for eight interceptions.

Safety Bryston Gipson, a Henderson State signee and one of John Tyler’s 13 college-bound senior players, rounded out the 2015 unit.

John Tyler won the District 16-5A championship and posted an 8-4 total record following an 0-3 non-district start.

Like all high school football players currently in their junior year, Mosley will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in February, 2017.
