LUFKIN — Jordan White pitched like an ace on Friday, and in doing so has the Elkhart Elks one win away from the regional semifinals.

White struck out 10 in a dominant performance, as the Elks took Game 1 of their best-of-three series with a 5-1 win over Warren at Morris Frank Park.

Game 2 is at 1 p.m. Saturday, with Game 3 to follow if necessary.

Elkhart opened the scoring in the first when Jacob Cheatham drove in Cole Bridges with an RBI single.

Bridges came around to score again in the third when catcher Levi Smith drove a ball over the scoreboard in left field for a two-run homer that put Elkhart ahead 3-0.

Elkhart added two more runs in the fifth when Bridges singled home Brian Johnson and came around to score on another RBI single from Cheatham.

Warren's lone run came thanks to three Elkhart errors in the third inning, the only blemish on an otherwise stellar night for the Elks.

The winner of this series will take on the winner of the Centerville-Salado regional quarterfinal.
