ROCKWALL -- It may not have been the way head coach Bernie Martinez drew it up, but the Longview Lobos’ baseball season will live on for at least another day.

Rockwall defeated Longview, 2-1, Friday night in the regular-season finale for both teams with the game ending in bizarre fashion. However, North Mesquite also lost on Friday, causing a tie for the final playoff spot from District 12-5A.

North Mesquite (14-15, 5-7) and Longview (14-12, 5-7) play for a spot in the postseason at 5 p.m. Saturday at Lobo Field in Longview.

Friday's game was called in Rockwall’s favor after both Martinez and his assistant coach were ejected in the bottom of the fourth inning.

According to Martinez, he was ejected by the home-plate umpire after arguing a play at the plate. He said that his assistant was later ejected while trying to keep order among Longview players.

Martinez said that both he and his assistant will be allowed to coach in Saturday’s district playoff.
