Longview Takes Advantage of Texas High Turnovers in 38-20 Win

TEXARKANA—Longview turned three Texas High turnovers into 21 points, and the Lobos pulled away late to take sole possession of first place in District 15-5A with a 38-20 win at Tiger Stadium at Grim Park.
Longview tailback Tylan Miller ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. The junior had 104 yards on 13 rushes in the first half.
The win put Longview (5-2, 4-0) in sole possession of first place in District 15-5A, while Texas High (4-3, 3-1) fell a game behind.
Keenan Madden intercepted a pass and raced 37 yards for the score to push the Lobos’ lead to 38-14 with 6:44 left in the game.
Tigers sophomore quarterback Cade Pearson, who was 20 of 27 passing for 254 yards, two TDs and two interceptions, hit Jarion Anderson for a first down, and Anderson broke free down the sideline for a 77-yard score with 5:49 left for the final points.
Three different Lobos ran for touchdowns in the first half, with Miller scoring just 2:01 into the game.
Marquise Hunter scored from the 1 with 1:08 left in the first quarter, and Dezmond Chumley scrambled 21 yards midway through the second quarter to take a 14-point lead (21-7) after a successful 2-point run by holder Cameron Castleberry.
After Hunter capped a 10-play, 78-yard drive, including a fourth-down conversion, the Tigers worked the passing game for a score.
Javon Thomas hauled in a pass in the flat from Pearson, got a block on the edge, and raced 58 yards down the left sideline to paydirt.
Thomas put Texas High within a touchdown by finishing off the opening drive of the second half with his 3-yard TD run, outracing a defender to the left corner of the end zone. The Tiger possession chewed up 6:19 off the clock and covered 56 yards on 14 plays.
Anderson finished with six catches for 111 yards.
Longview held Texas High to 10 yards on 18 rushes.
