Lufkin’s KeKe Coutee + Center’s Johnny Shaw Commit to Texas at Sunday Camp

The Texas Longhorns scored a pair of East Texas 2015 standouts at their Sunday camp in Austin.

Lufkin athlete Key'Vantanie "KeKe" Coutee and Center safety Johnny Shaw committed to the Longhorns on Sunday during a busy weekend for East Texas recruiting that saw a half dozen FBS offers go out to recruits from the region.

Shaw got an offer Sunday and committed, according to Center head coach Kevin Goodwin. His commitment is a flip from TCU, which offered him May 17 and got his commitment May 18.

The 6-foot-1, 187-pound Shaw told 247Sports.com on Sunday why he chose Texas after an early TCU commitment: "That's me. It's who I am." He also told ESPN.com, "It feels like a dream. A real good dream."

Shaw had a breakout sophomore season in 2012 for the Roughriders, who finished 8-3 with a Class 3A Division II Region III first-round playoff appearance. He had 88 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. Shaw was third on the team in tackles and first in picks.

Coutee, whose commitment was initially reported by 247Sports.com, and the Longhorns have been high on each other for some time. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Coutee also has offers from Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

He's been recruited as an athlete and could play either side of the ball in college, but he really stood out as a receiver in Lufkin's high-powered offense this past fall, when the Panthers went 9-4 with a Class 5A Division II Region II semifinal appearance. He caught  64 passes for 864 yards and 10 touchdowns, finishing second on the team in all three categories behind SMU signee JaBryce Taylor.
