Memphis rolled through the region Monday evening and jumped from being interested in one local player to four.

The Tigers program presented offers to Kilgore receiver Jonathan Shepherd, Pleasant Grove linebacker Xavier Benson and West Rusk linebacker Tyree Wilson within a matter of hours. All three players reported their new college football scholarship opportunities via Twitter.

Carthage running back Keaontay Ingram is the fourth and longest-tenured East Texan on Memphis' board.

Last season, in a predominantly run-oriented offense, Shepherd (6-3, 196) caught 17 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns. Kilgore shared the District 9-4A Division I title and advanced to the area round of the playoffs, finishing with a 7-5 record.

Benson (6-3, 200) recorded a team second-best 89 tackles for Pleasant Grove and tied for the team lead in takeaways with four. Pleasant Grove reached the third round of the Class 4A Division II postseason

Benson also plays some receiver for Pleasant Grove. Out of the Wing-T formation, he caught nine passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Wilson, a Washington State verbal commitment, was a force on West Rusk’s Class 3A Division II bi-district team last season. He made 68 solo tackles, including 13 for loss, and assisted six other tackles in 11 games as part of a linebacking corps that cannibalized each other’s stats.

In addition to 74 total tackles, Wilson forced two fumbles and returned one interception 34 yards for a touchdown.

Memphis posted its third consecutive season of eight wins or better with an 8-5 record under first-year coach Mike Norvell. The Tigers made a Boca Raton Bowl appearance after posting a 5-3 mark in American Athletic Conference competition.

Norvell, 35 years old, joined the program after serving as the offensive coordinator and associate head coach under Todd Graham at Arizona State. Norvell gained earlier coaching experience at Tulsa and Pittsburgh.

Memhpis has been to 10 bowl games in its 104-year history, including the past three seasons.

Shepherd, Benson and Wilson will become eligible to sign with any programs that offer them in December.
