Saturday Basketball Roundup: Tyler Grace Girls Finish Road Trip On High Note + Bullard Tops Crandall
SEGUIN -- Tyler Grace Community finished its time at the Geronimo Navarro Tournament in Seguin with a 53-43 victory against La Vernia for the Silver Bracket title.
Addie Daughty and Jordan Tauscher led the way with 18 points each. Jo Murray also hit double digits for the winning side with 11 points in the contest.
Grace (10-4) raced out to an 18-5 lead through the first quarter, but La Vernia responded with an 18-point second quarter of its own and closed the gap to 27-23 at the break with the aid of foul trouble for the East Texas side.
Back at full strength, Grace outscored La Vernia 26-20 in the second half for the win.
Daughtry was named to the all-tournament team after the game.
Grace (10-4) returns to the region for a 6:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Canton.
Bullard Outlasts Crandall
EUSTACE -- A big fourth quarter lifted Bullard to a 38-26 win against Crandall in the Lady Panthers' final game of the Eustace Tournament.
Bullard's defense held Crandall to a game-low three points in the fourth quarter of play. That allowed it to open up what was just a 25-23 advantage after three periods.
Sydney Foster's 14 points led the Lady Panthers. Allie Kirgan and Hannah Lloyd chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, as the team's second and third-leading scorers.
Bullard will host Alba-Golden on Tuesday.
