VAN -- After a gridlocked first half, Grandview scored 21 unanswered points to start the second half to propel the Zebras to a 47-32 win against White Oak in Friday's Class 2A Division I Region III area playoff.

Grandview (9-2) plays Newton (11-0) next week in a 2A Division I Region III semifinal at a site and time to be determined. White Oak's season ends with an 9-3 record.

With the game tied 26-26 through halftime, Grandview took the lead for good on Ryan Breton's 20-yard run eight minutes into the third quarter. Jordan Martinez added touchdown runs of 4 and 1 to extend the Zebras' lead to 47-26 with 1:42 left in the game.

White Oak scored on Dylan Gale's one-yard run with 39 seconds remaining to cut the margin to 15 points.

White Oak's Jansen McCurdy concluded a strong junior season with seven catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while Gale completed 10 of 33 passes for 202 yards and two scores. Tailback Hunter Owens ran 23 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came in the second quarter.

Owens' second touchdown run, a two-yarder, cut Grandview's lead to 26-20with 7:30 left in the first half. Gale's two-yard touchdown pass to McCurdy tied the game with 4:03 until halftime. McCurdy scored White Oak's first touchdown of the game on a 66-yard strike less than three minutes into the contest.

That was White Oak's only score of the first quarter as Grandview jumped to a 20-6 advantage.

Breton completed 24 of 39 passes for 353 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions, while running 17 times for 62 yards and a score. Martinez had a game-high 161 yards on 21 carries.

Grandview's Colby Lee and Chase Goldwater proved a tough receiving combo for the Roughnecks to stop. Lee caught nine passes for 135 yards and two scores, while Goldwater caught eight passes for 164 yards and a touchdown.
