ATHENS -- Robert Ivey’s return to Bruce Field was a good one. Ivey, who coached the Athens Hornets in the early 2000s, watched his Canton Eagles use one big play after another to score a 48-23 win Friday night in the District 15-3A opener.

BETHEL — The Cayuga Wildcats overcame  themselves and a stingy Kerens team to open up district play with a victory Friday at Scarborough Stadium.

NEW CHAPEL HILL -- Joseph Clark had three long touchdown runs and Chapel Hill erupted for 32 points in the second half en route to a 52-33 win over District of Doom foe Spring Hill on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

CORSICANA -- For a quarter Friday night, the Corsicana Tigers stayed with the No. 3-ranked John Tyler Lions.

WHITE OAK -- Darian Brooks connected with Shaq Johnson on a screen pass, and Johnson went 49 yards for a touchdown to give Tatum a dramatic 28-21 win over White Oak on Friday night.

LONGVIEW -- The Longview Lobos needed to rebound from their district-opening loss two weeks ago at Mesquite, and it didn't take long for them to put it in the rear-view mirror.
