PALESTINE -- Terrance Cuney rushed for 153 yards and four touchdowns to lead Jasper to a 58-20 win over Waco La Vega in their Class 3A Division I Region III area-round playoff Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.

Jasper (8-3), which outscored La Vega 27-0 after halftime, advanced to meet West Orange-Stark next week in the regional semifinals. La Vega finished the season 6-6.

Cuney scored on runs of 2, 5, 15 and 34 yards for Jasper. Shawn Jones also had a superb all-around performance with 122 rushing yards on only three carries in addition to two catches for 73 yards. Quarterback Steven Walker was 5-of-7 for 159 yards and a touchdown, while receiver Randy Spikes had five catches for 128 yards.

La Vega was led by running back DeTrayten Wagoner, who finished with 212 yards and all three Pirates touchdowns on 21 carries.

Jasper kicker Marco Lopez's 28-yard field goal opened the game's scoring before a 4-yard touchdown run by Wagoner gave La Vega a 6-3 first-quarter lead. Cuney's 2-yard run put the Bulldogs in front 10-6, but a 28-yard run by Wagoner put La Vega back in front, 12-10.

Walker's 60-yard scoring strike to Jones, followed by a 33-yard touchdown run from Wagoner gave La Vega a 20-17 lead. But Jasper closed the half with a pair of touchdowns -- a Spikes 19-yard run and a 5-yard scoring run by Cuney -- to go up 31-20 at halftime.

Jasper scored three times in the third quarter and once in the fourth to put the game away.
