Texas State might have to fend off a late push from the Big 12 Conference for senior receiver Quan Hampton's services.

Kansas entered the picture Tuesday evening and gave Texas High's most prolific offensive weapon his first scholarship offer from a power five football conference. Hampton, who reported the news through his personal Twitter account, has been committed to Texas State since Nov. 1.

It has been a fairly active workweek already for East Texas in the recruiting sphere. Six different schools have reached out to six different players since Monday morning, and a seventh player made a commitment announcement.

Hampton (5-9, 165) caught 71 passes for 1,215 yards and 10 touchdowns from North Texas quarterback commitment Cade Pearson during his senior year at Texas High. He also recorded two interceptions at defensive back en route to a perfect 10-0 regular season and a first-round playoff game appearance at the Class 5A Division I level.

The Jayhawks managed a 2-10 record under second-year coach David Beaty -- a two-win improvement compared to 2015 campaign. It was enough for Kansas athletics director Sheahon Zenger to extended Beaty's contract from its initial ending date after the 2019 season to the end of the 2021 season.

Beaty, a former high school head coach at four schools in the Dallas area, became the head coach at Kansas after three seasons as a receivers coach at Texas A&M. He also coached at Rice and served two previous stints with the Jayhawks program as a receivers coach.

Kansas has not enjoyed much success in East Texas, but its 2016 roster featured 46 Texans mostly from the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas. Former Nacogdoches offensive lineman Jacob Bragg, a rising junior, is the only local player currently on the roster.

Beaty's staff is making an effort to change that. It previously offered five senior skill players from the area, but four of those players have committed elsewhere and one is uncommitted.

Hampton, like all college football prospects currently in their senior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
