Texas High’s Coltin Clack Receives First Offer From Florida Atlantic
The Florida Atlantic Owls are making their presence felt in East Texas this week, and on Wednesday, they reached out to one of the region's most talented quarterbacks in the 2019 recruiting class.
Texas High sophomore Coltin Clack (6-3, 215) announced via Twitter that FAU became the first Division I FBS program to offer him a scholarship.
Clack became the fifth member of East Texas' 2019 class to receive an FBS offer and the second of the day to pick up their first invitation from Florida Atlantic.
The Owls also reached out to Henderson sophomore defensive end Keivie Rose on Wednesday. In addition, FAU has also offered Henderson quarterback Trae Hall and Kilgore receiver Jonathan Shepherd out of the 2018 class.
Clack will be a part of ushering in a new era of Texas High football this fall. He will be taking over at quarterback for the graduated Cade Pearson, a three-year starter who signed with North Texas this past February.
And for the first time since 1998, someone other than Barry Norton will be leading the program. Former White Oak and Flower Mound Marcus boss Gerry Stanford was hired this offseason to replace Norton, who took over at crosstown rival Arkansas High.
Clack and 2018 receiver Tevailance Hunt, a Kansas commit, currently represent the Texas High players with Division I offers.
Florida Atlantic made a splash in January with the hiring of Lane Kiffin as its next head coach. Kiffin had served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator for three seasons after stints as head coach at Tennessee and USC.
Kiffin also has been a head coach in the NFL. Al Davis hired Kiffin, 31 years old at the time, to lead the Oakland Raiders in 2007 after seeing his work as offensive coordinator at USC during the Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart era.
Florida Atlantic finished 3-9 last season as a member of Conference USA.
Clack, like all college football prospects currently in their sophomore year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in December of 2019.
