FRANKSTON -- Bad news for a very good Malakoff team.

Frankston held onto its one-game advantage for the District 18-3A lead with a 59-39 win against Arp and is within one game of clinching at least share of the district title.

Ozzie Buckner hit four 3-pointers in the game as part of his 14-point night. Justice Bean also scored 14 points in the victory and recorded six assists as well as six rebounds.

Kendrick Rogers got a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Caden Bruton scored 12 points in the win.

Tyler Stewart put up 15 points of Arp in the loss.

The Indians moved to 12-0 in the district and 22-4 overall. Arp, already eliminated from postseason competition, fell to 3-9 in the league.

Frankston will visit Malakoff on Friday. If the Indians win, they will clinch the district title.

Arp next hosts Rice.

 

No. 3 Martin's Mill Tops North Hopkins

MARTIN'S MILL -- Martin's Mill continued its run through District 14-2A with a 76-52 win against North Hopkins.

The victory moved the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' No. 3 Class 2A team to 26-4 overall and 8-0 in the league.

Logan Jenkins led four Mustangs in double digits with 24 points, including 15 tallies on 3-pointers. Hunter Conway followed with 15 points. Dylan Weatherford and Davis Moore rounded out the team's top performers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Miguel Orozco scored 37 points for North Hopkins, but the remainder of the roster was held to five or less points each.

North Hopkins fell to 4-4 in league play.

Martin's Mill will host Como-Pickton on Friday. North Hopkins will visit Fruitvale the same night.

 

Laneville Wins Series Versus Gary

GARY -- Laneville, the No. 2 team state-wide in the latest TABC Class A poll, rolled to a 91-54 victory at Gary in District 28-A play.

The Yellowjackets recorded 26 assists and 25 steals in the wind. They also made 10 collective 3-pointers, five treys from Jaylon Grant alone.

Grant led Laneville with 24 points. Ladarius Arnett scored 19 points, Tiarel Franklin added 12 and Christian Brantley chipped in 11.

Gary got great production out of Austin Morton. He led the team with 24 points in defeat.

Laneville (22-3, 10-0) visits Mt. Enterprise on Friday. Gary will be idle and closes its season against Mt. Enterprise next week.

 

Girls Basketball

Chapel Hill Doubles Up Gladewater

NEW CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill closed the regular season on a high note with a 73-36 win against Gladewater in its District 16-4A finale.

The Lady Bulldogs had three scorers reach double digits.

Daija Maddox led the team with 17 points, Princess Suell scored 14 and Mykaela Alfred rounded out the leading scorers with 13 tallies.

Tamera Duncan scored a team-best 14 points for Gladewater.

 

No. 9 Martin's Mills Cruises Past North Hopkins

MARTIN'S MILL -- Cheyenne Brown led the Lady Mustangs with 27 points in an 84-20 win against North Hopkins in the regular season finale for both teams.

The victory gave Martin's Mill a perfect 10-0 record in District 14-2A and a 24-7 regular season overall.

Bailey Moon scored 13 points in the game. Alyssa Pate also reached double digits with 10 points.

Martin's Mill will play an exhibition playoff game 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinney North prior to beginning its playoff run.

 

Tenaha Takes Down Beckville

BECKVILLE -- Tenaha earned a 52-33 win at the hands of Beckville in the teams' District 22-2A finale.

Ke'Anya Davis led the Lady Tigers with 18 points.

Kimber Wesner scored a team-best 14 points for Beckville.

 

Bullard Slips In District 16-4A Finale

KILGORE -- Bullard entered Tuesday's game hoping to cap a perfect run through league play.

Kilgore thwarted the Lady Panthers' opportunity with a 36-33 win.

Despite the loss, Lauren Zachry and Lexi Kirgan put up 12 and 11 points for Bullard (29-6, 9-1).

The Lady Panthers, who still won the district championship, will begin their playoff run at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Pittsburg in Winona's home gym.
