CARTHAGE -- The first match with Leven Barker at the helm couldn't have gone any better for the Carthage Lady Dogs.

Barker, who spent the previous five seasons at Pine Tree, collected his first win as Carthage's new head coach after the Lady Dogs swept John Tyler 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night.

Senior Iesha Bryant led the way for Carthage (1-0) with 20 kills. Kenzie Tate dished out 33 assists, while Morgan Wedgeworth and Marissa Snow combined for 17 digs. Marisah Ingram added seven kills in the winning effort.

Carthage resumes its season this weekend at the Garland Tournament. The Lady Dogs' pool consists of North Garland, Dallas Episcopal and Mesquite Horn.

John Tyler (0-1), meanwhile, takes part in the Mansfield Tournament over the weekend.

Tyler All Saints Begins With Wins Over Longview + Kilgore

LONGVIEW -- The Tyler All Saints Lady Trojans got off to a fast start, defeating both Longview and Kilgore in a dual match Tuesday night.

All Saints outlasted Longview in five games 12-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-17, 15-3. Lanna Johnson led the way with 28 kills, while Madeline Wynne added 10. Maddie Smith provided 40 assists.

In the Lady Trojans' 25-11, 25-19, 25-14 sweep of Kilgore, Johnson and Wynne combined for 26 kills, while Smith contributed 28 assists. Kilgore was led by Annie Mehringer's six kills, seven digs and one ace. Mikayla Thomas added 5 assists.

Kilgore outlasted Longview in the other match Tuesday 25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 17-25, 15-10. Mehringer once again led the way with 10 kills, six aces and 12 digs, while Thomas provided 14 assists, five digs and two aces. Tony Burks contributed nine kills and one ace, while Nichole Flores added 20 digs.

All Saints (2-0) continues its season this weekend at the Van Tournament, while Longview hosts its own tournament and Kilgore participates in the Gary Tournament.

Whitehouse Opens With Wins Over Pittsburg + New Diana

WHITEHOUSE -- The Whitehouse LadyCats took both ends of Tuesday's dual match, sweeping Pittsburg before outlasting New Diana in five games.

Whitehouse defeated Pittsburg 25-10, 25-15, 25-14 and hung on to beat New Diana 25-15, 22-25, 25-27, 25-14, 15-8.

Ashton Ates and Kaitlyn Anderson led the way in kills, while Ronnie Fountain led in assists. Amanda Dimon also added solid defensive play, leading the LadyCats in digs.

Whitehouse (2-0) returns to action this weekend at the Duncanville Tournament. Pittsburg travels to New Boston on Friday, while New Diana is at Gilmer on Friday.

Van Sweeps Dual Match With Harmony + Chapel Hill

NEW CHAPEL HILL -- The Van Lady Vandals got the new year off to a good start with a sweep of Harmony and Chapel Hill in a tri-match Tuesday night.

Van defeated Harmony 25-18, 25-23, 25-15 behind Bri Thompson's 10-kill performance. Hallee Carter and Rebekah Rogers added five kills apiece in the win.

In the Lady Vandals' 25-15, 25-15, 25-12 sweep of Chapel Hill, Thompson again led the way with 16 kills. Carter and Rogers combined on 12 kills of their own, while Morgan Wilkerson registered 26 assists.

Van hosts its own tournament this weekend, in which both Harmony and Chapel Hill are also participating.

Henderson Sweeps Matches From Tyler Grace + Winona

HENDERSON -- The Henderson Lady Lions began the season in fine form, sweeping Tyler Grace and Winona in their tri-match Tuesday night.

Henderson defeated Tyler Grace 25-12, 25-19, 25-19. Jordan Boles paced the attack with seven kills, six digs and one ace. Karley Free added 13 assists, two kills, three aces, two blocks and four digs. The trio of Morgan Weaver, Kami McCaw and Codie Whitehead combined for 10 kills in the victory.

In the Lady Lions' 25-8, 25-7, 25-8 win over Winona, several Henderson players contributed. Free had 12 assists and four kills, McCaw delivered four kills, two digs and an ace and Weaver collected a team-best five kills to go with two aces and a block. Boles added four kills, Whitehead had three, Taylor Sledge had two kills and two blocks and Kenzy Henry finished with eight assists.

Henderson's season resumes this weekend at the Gary Tournament, while Tyler Grace takes part in the Van Tournament and Winona plays in the Hawkins Tournament.

Bullard Takes Down Jacksonville + Bullard Brook Hill

JACKSONVILLE -- The Bullard Lady Panthers began the season with a pair of wins Tuesday night over Jacksonville and Bullard Brook Hill.

In Bullard's dominating 25-11, 25-6, 25-6 sweep of Jacksonville, the Lady Panthers were led by Maddy Davis' seven kills and Ashley Searcy's six blocks. Katie Trezise added five kills and five blocks.

Mackenzie Fish had 10 kills, nine digs and four blocks in Bullard's 25-13, 25-19, 25-16 sweep of Bullard Brook Hill. Searcy had five blocks, Mallory McCoy contributed nine assists, Rachel Kelley had eight assists and five aces and Madi Hodges came through with 23 digs in the winning effort.

Bullard continues play Thursday in the Gary Tournament with pool play against Elysian Fields, Union Hill and Gary. Bracket play commences Saturday. Jacksonville takes part in the Grapeland Tournament this weekend, while Brook Hill is participating in the Baytown Christian Tournament.

Edgewood Defeats Mineola to Open Season

MINEOLA -- Edgewood began the season with a 25-22, 25-18, 17-25, 27-25 victory over Mineola on Tuesday night.

Paige Parker led Edgewood (1-0) by averaging 13 points per match. Chelsie Foster also had a big game at the net, while Bailey Cates and Allison Lewis shined at setting.

Edgewood and Mineola both return to the court this weekend at the Van Tournament.

Sabine Takes Down Big Sandy in Four

LIBERTY CITY -- The Sabine Lady Cardinals moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 25-18, 25-15, 12-25, 25-13 win over Big Sandy on Tuesday.

Jayden Mount led the way with 10 digs and 16 assists while going 16-of-16 from the service line with one ace. Haley Stuart added 13 kills, two blocks and two digs and was 12-of-13 on serves. Tylia Sylestine produced nine kills and registered 27 digs while going a perfect 18-of-18 from the service line with three aces.

Brittany Terry had six kills, nine digs and a block and was 8-of-8 on serves, while Skyler Richter came through with six kills, eight digs and three assists.

Sabine returns to action this weekend at the Burkburnett Tournament before returning home to face Overton on Aug. 20.

San Augustine Sweeps Diboll

SAN AUGUSTINE -- The San Augustine Lady Wolves took a 25-15, 25-18, 31-29 sweep over Diboll in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night.

Diboll, which lost six seniors to graduation, struggled in its first match of the year. The Lady Jacks made 14 service errors and were called for seven violations.

Diboll (0-1) resumes its season this weekend at the Woodville Tournament.

Beckville Evens Record With Sweep of Waskom

WASKOM -- The Beckville Ladycats rebounded from Monday's season-opening loss to Sabine with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-22 sweep of Waskom on Tuesday night.

Beckville (1-1) was led by Carson Blair's eight kills and five digs. Ivy Rieke added six kills, two digs and three blocks, while Taylor Lindsay added three kills and six digs and Stacie Brevard had a team-high eight assists.

The Ladycats' season resumes this weekend at the Longview Tournament, while Waskom participates in the Gary Tournament.
