HALLSVILLE -- Blake Bogenschutz ripped a three-run homer, Tyler Musgrove had a triple and three RBIs and the Carthage Bulldogs held off Pittsburg, 7-6, Saturday on the final day of the Reich Builders Classic.

Carthage (11-4) went 3-1 in the three-day event, handing the tournament host Hallsville its first and only loss of the season Friday night.

Bogenschutz's three-run blast down the left-field line gave Carthage a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning. And the Bulldogs held off a seventh-inning rally to capture their third straight win.

Staff ace JayDon Day entered the game in the bottom of the seventh with Carthage leading 7-5. With one out, Pittsburg's Brian Taylor launched a solo shot to left center to cut the deficit to a run.

Day hit Ty Hammonds on the next pitch, and Hammonds reached third on an errant pickoff attempt at first base. But Tyler Reynolds failed to make contact with the squeeze play on and Hammonds was tagged out at home for the second out. Day followed with a strikeout of Reynolds to end it.

Musgrove got the win on the mound for Carthage. The junior right-hander worked five innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Pittsburg's Zack DeLuna suffered the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits. He struck out three and issued four walks.

In addition to big days from Bogenschutz and Musgrove, Jack Morris was 3-for-4 with a double and run scored for Carthage.

Taylor and Trace Burns each had two hits and an RBI for Pittsburg.

Carthage took a 1-0 lead in the first on Musgrove's sacrifice fly that scored Kolby Blissett, but Pittsburg got a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning on Garrett Truitt's RBI double and a sac fly from Brandon Colbert.

Musgrave gave the lead back to Carthage in the third with a two-run triple to the left-center field gap.

Following Bogenschutz's three-run shot, Pittsburg chipped away at the lead. DeLuna doubled home a run in the fourth, and consecutive RBI singles by Reynolds and Burns cut the Pirates' deficit to 6-5 in the fifth.

Blissett scored an insurance run for Carthage in the top of sixth on a two-base throwing error by the Pittsburg third baseman.

Carthage is back in action Monday at Shreveport Calvary Baptist Academy.
